Drew Goesl

Drew Goesl is a principal with Capitol Counsel, LLC.  He brings to the firm over 10 years of experience on Capitol Hill, in both the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives.  Mr. Goesl’s unique blend of talents includes a keen understanding of policymaking and political strategy, and the ability to shape effective messaging to influence federal policy and politics.    

Prior to joining Capitol Counsel in September of 2009, Mr. Goesl served as chief of staff to Congressman Mike Ross (D- AR) where he managed the Congressman’s official Congressional and political operations.  Mr. Goesl worked closely with House leadership and committee staff as well as with key coalitions, including the fiscally conservative Democratic Blue Dog Coalition and the moderate New Democratic Coalition. 

During his tenure with Congressman Ross, Mr. Goesl also directed the Congressman’s leadership responsibilities for the Blue Dog Coalition and served on the senior staff team responsible for advancing the coalition’s overall agenda. Most recently, Mr. Goesl developed and implemented a successful communications plan responsible for helping elevate the profile of the Blue Dogs on Capitol Hill and nationally. 

Prior to joining Capitol Counsel, Mr. Goesl worked to create an integrated strategy for Congressman Ross’s leadership responsibilities as chairman of the Blue Dog Coalition’s Health Care Task Force.  Mr. Goesl worked with the Congressman to advance the coalition’s agenda on health care reform, which ultimately secured the Blue Dog leadership a role as moderate brokers in key White House and House negotiations.

Before leading the staff of Congressman Ross, Mr. Goesl worked for eight years for the senior U.S. Senator from Arkansas, Blanche Lincoln (D-AR), a member of the Finance Committee and current chair of the Agriculture Committee.  Mr. Goesl first worked on Lincoln’s initial Senate campaign as a member of her finance team; he later served as her communications director for her successful re-election campaign. 

On Senator Lincoln’s Senate staff, Mr. Goesl served as communications director.  In that capacity, he acted as a senior advisor, chief communications strategist, and spokesperson for the Senator.  Mr. Goesl managed Senator Lincoln’s messaging, media relations, and overall press staff and press operations.  He was elected president of the Senate Press Secretaries Association in 2005.

A Texarkana, Arkansas native, Mr. Goesl earned a bachelor of science in public administration from the University of Arkansas College of Business in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
